Open Letter to Sean Hannity

Mr. Hannity,

I am a faithful Catholic trying to live my life by the rules and guidance of our great religion, and I have been strengthened in the past by your public witness to your faith.

However, after being a fan of yours for several years, I abruptly stopped listening to your show after your rude and harsh treatment of Fr. Tom Euteneuer on March 9, 2007.

Fr. Euteneuer was attempting to engage in dialogue with you regarding your public dissent over a teaching of our faith. This is the same type of dialogue you attempt to engage others in to challenge them regarding issues of truth. Unfortunately, you did not afford Fr. Euteneuer the same level of respect you demand from your other guests.

It is plainly clear that our Catholic faith teaches that artificial contraception is a grave evil, no matter what. The Catechism states in paragraph 2370:

"Periodic continence, that is, the methods of birth regulation based on self-observation and the use of infertile periods, is in conformity with the objective criteria of morality. These methods respect the bodies of the spouses, encourage tenderness between them, and favor the education of an authentic freedom. In contrast, "every action which, whether in anticipation of the conjugal act, or in its accomplishment, or in the development of its natural consequences, proposes, whether as an end or as a means, to render procreation impossible" is intrinsically evil."

You are to be commended for your public condemnation of abortion, which is also called "intrinsically evil" in our Catechism. But how can you condemn Senators Kennedy and Kerry for their public dissent regarding abortion while you are publicly dissenting regarding contraception? You, who claim to be a defender of truth, are blatantly violating the principle of non-contradiction.

There is also the fact that the sexual carelessness brought about by a contraceptive mentality results in millions of abortions every year. In fact, the Supreme Court opined in Casey v. Planned Parenthood that abortion is a backstop for failed contraception and must therefore remain legal. If you are truly against abortion, you must also strike at its root cause: contraception.

It is my hope that this entire episode has caused you to reconsider your position in favor of artificial contraception. You are in my prayers.

Hillcrest Report #8

On Saturday, six prayer warriors showed up at the Hillcrest abortion facility to continue the nine-week Novena to the Holy Spirit for Life. This novena began on Saturday March 31st and will conclude next weekend on the Saturday before Pentecost Sunday.

Incredible things have been happening during this novena. After we conclude the novena next Saturday I will give my reflections on all of the events that I think are tied in some way to our prayers, which are also united with others praying the same novena at other abortion facilities in our country.

Come out next Saturday, even if you haven't been out yet. Help us to call down the power of the Holy Spirit to renew the face of Maryland, America, and the world, and bring about a culture of life!

The Warsaw Declaration

From 11-13 May 2007 the World Congress of Families (WCF) IV was held in Warsaw, Poland. This was the world's largest gathering of pro-family leaders and grass-roots activists, with thousands of family activists from over 75 nations present.

At the conclusion of the Congress, the 3,000 WCF IV delegates ratified the "Warsaw Declaration" - a pro-family document that will hopefully pave the way for the overturning of decades of anti-family legislation and activism on the world stage, particularly within the European Union and also within the United States and the United Nations.

The Warsaw Declaration brings the definition and role of the family back in line with the Natural Law. It asserts that the natural family, which consists of a life-long marriage between a man and a woman that is open to new life, will bring to the world:

  • Faithfulness to Divine Truth rather than relativism;
  • Real love rather than hedonism;
  • Faithfulness in love throughout life rather than a lack of responsibility toward those closest to us;
  • Respect for every human life from conception to a natural death rather than discrimination and extermination of the weak;
  • A turning away from the fearful "contraceptive mentality" regarding children-to-be toward a joyful responsibility of bringing new life into the world;
  • A "springtime" of a civilization of love and life rather than a "demographic winter."

This should give us hope.

Hillcrest Reports #6 and #7

I'm sorry for not reporting sooner, but life has become quite hectic lately. I was unable to be physically present at the Hillcrest Clinic for week 6 of the Novena for Life to the Holy Spirit, but I did join the group spiritually by praying the Novena from home at the same time.

In my absence, members from the group gathered around the one copy of the prayers they had and faithfully continued the Novena. About six people were there. After the Novena prayers they marched around the building praying the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

I was able to make it to Week Seven of the Novena. It was a beautiful Saturday morning and nine of us gathered in front of the Hillcrest abortion facility and prayed.

God is moving in such powerful ways during this Novena. Please come out this Saturday for Week 8 and next Saturday for the final day of the nine-week Novena and be a part of this incredible movement of the Holy Spirit.
