By Michael Whitcraft
At 6:30 am on Saturday, December 22, while most were snug in bed, resting up for Christmas activities, veteran pro-lifer Ed Snell was arriving at Hillcrest Abortion Center, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He had come with two other activists to persuade women entering the clinic not to abort their pre-born children.
The group customarily meets at the clinic and has saved many lives. In fact, they have been so effective, that the clinic erected a 7-foot privacy fence to cut off all communication between the women and the pro-lifers. However, their efforts were scuttled, when the activists began bringing ladders so they could speak over the fence.
Mr. Snell, age 69, preferred to stand on a more solid foundation, so he constructed a plywood platform on the roof of his car to elevate him above the fence.
“This platform gives him a real steady base and a commanding view,” said fellow activist and eyewitness John McTernan. As Ed stood on his platform that morning, a man and woman exited a car in the parking lot and proceeded towards that door of the abortion mill.
When Mr. Snell tried to counsel the woman, his words were cut short when the man became furious, jumped the fence and, in the words of Mr. McTernan, “leaped on the vehicle with Ed and catapulted him off of the vehicle and onto the ground.” Mr. Snell hit his back and head on the pavement and was knocked unconscious.
His medical report outlines the extent of his injuries: “multiple trauma, right subarachnoid hemorrhage (bleeding in the area between the brain and the tissues that cover the brain), compression fractures of four vertebrae (T3, T4, T5 and T10), right scapula fracture and fracture of the fourth and fifth ribs.” Before doctors were able to stop the bleeding in his head, they even feared Mr. Snell would die.
When asked on the phone about the vicious attack, the receptionist at Hillcrest Abortion Clinic refused to give a recorded statement and angrily shouted: “He got what he deserved! He earned what he got!” She then hung up the phone.
Immediately after the attack, Mr. McTernan ran over to Ed and was frightened to see that he was unconscious and breathing irregularly. He reported the attack to “911” and then shouted to the assailant: “You assaulted him and he is unconscious.” Agitated, the man replied: “I did not assault him, I just pushed him,” with an aggressiveness that made Mr. McTernan fearful for his own safety.
Ed was taken away in an ambulance and three police officers arrived to investigate. They went into the clinic, where the assailant was waiting. After a few moments, the assailant and his companion left the clinic freely, got into their car and drove away.
Shocked, Mr. McTernan shouted to the police: “What are you doing? That’s him! That’s the assailant!”
One cop replied: “It is none of your business!”
Mr. McTernan: “I am making it my business, Ed Snell is my good friend!”
The officer then threatened to arrest Mr. McTernan for interfering with a criminal investigation. Mr. Mcternan replied: “Go ahead and arrest me, I am not afraid. I want to know why the assailant walked away from this scene where an elderly man was left unconscious. We have excellent attorneys and we will sue you if you do not do your job.”
She angrily responded: “Don’t threaten me or I will arrest you!” She then returned to the police car and drove away. At the time this article was written, the Harrisburg Police Department had not returned a phone call requesting a statement on the incident.
Once the extent of Mr. Snell’s injuries were discovered, the assailant was arrested.
Nevertheless, as Mr. McTernan put it: “I cannot imagine me [as a pro-lifer], striking someone connected with Hillcrest [Abortion Center], knocking them unconscious, the police coming, the injured person being taken away in an ambulance and the police letting me go. There is something wrong with that.”
There is also something wrong with the lack of media coverage of the incident. At the time this article was written, a google search about the attack returned no results.
Ed returned home just in time to celebrate Christmas with his family. He was released from the hospital on Christmas Eve, just a couple of hours before Bishop Kevin Rhodes of Harrisburg arrived to pay him a visit.
Doctors expect him to make a full recovery, although it will take a long time. “Ed is very sore,” said Mrs. Snell in a telephone interview, “he is black and blue and the doctor said that it will be a full eight weeks before his bones heal completely.”
Mrs. Snell is thankful for the prayers that Ed has received and hopes these will continue. She feels confident that, supported by these prayers, he will recover well.
As for Mr. Snell, he is not yet accepting telephone calls, but feels humbled by all the prayers and attention he has received. A man of faith, he feels called to his work and remains undaunted. As Mrs. Snell aptly put it: “I know that the Devil is busy and that he does not like the work that Ed does, but if that is the case, then Ed is doing the right job.”
Please keep Mr. and Mrs. Snell in your prayers and, due to the lack of press coverage, please email this article to all your friends.

Choice on Earth - ALL Video
WASHINGTON, D.C. — “Planned Parenthood’s ‘Choice on Earth’ holiday cards are its latest assault on Christianity,” said Jim Sedlak, vice president of American life League. “By changing the word ‘peace’ to ‘choice’, Planned Parenthood is effectively implying that Mary should have considered aborting Jesus.”
American Life League’s latest video report exposes Planned Parenthood’s continued assault on Christianity. The report goes from ‘Choice on Earth’ holiday cards to Planned Parenthood’s involvement in a 1973 comic book that depicts a sacrilegious rendition of Mad Magazine’s Alfred E. Newman posing as the Blessed Virgin Mary.
“King Herod sent soldiers out to slaughter babies because he wanted to kill Jesus,” said Sedlak. “Two thousand years later, Planned Parenthood is still doing all it can to kill babies. That is what their motto ‘Choice on Earth’ really means.”
“Planned Parenthood continues to flaunt its anti-God, secular humanist agenda in its products and in our schools,” Sedlak concluded. “It is time for all Americans to stay away from this organization.”

Fifty Million Americans are Missing!
For every two Americans who are 35 years old or younger, one more is missing. Where did they go? How did 50,000,000 people disappear?
On January 22, 1973, Supreme Court Chief Justice Berger and Justices Blackmun, Douglas, Brennan, Stewart, Marshall, and Powell took the blood of the innocents upon their heads through their decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton. They un-Constitutionally usurped States' rights and legalized abortion-on-demand throughout the USA for any reason at any point in a pregnancy.
This is a serious social issue, with ramifications in every aspect of our lives. Aside from the sheer number of deaths, women are being emotionally and physically scarred by all of these abortions. Families are being torn apart. Crimes against human dignity are on the rise. The sense of personal responsibility has been lost. Sexually transmitted disease is more rampant than ever. People are less kind to one another.
In the political arena, how can you trust a lawmaker, executive, or judge who believes it is OK for a doctor to kill an innocent human being in the womb? If he or she does not believe in the basic right to life, how can we be secure in our other rights (consider the recent Maryland tax hikes and the reports that hospitals and hospices are killing their patients)?
It is estimated that 1,400,000 Americans were aborted in 2004. The second-leading cause of death in America that year was heart disease, which claimed 650,000 lives. Cancer was the third-leading cause of death with 550,000 victims. All other causes of death combined for 1,200,000 fatalities, still less than the number who lost their lives through abortion.
Other great tragedies that have befallen mankind:
- World War II: 41,000,000 civilian deaths (all countries) - 82% of US abortion deaths
- World War II: 25,000,000 military deaths (all countries) - 50% of US abortion deaths
- Annihilation of the American Indians: 20,000,000 deaths - 40% of US abortion deaths
- Jewish Holocaust: 5,740,000 deaths - 11.5% of US abortion deaths
- Crusades: less than 1,000,000 deaths over the course of 200 years - 2% of US abortion deaths
- American Civil War: 617,000 deaths - 1% of US abortion deaths
Check with your local church or Knights of Columbus Council to see if transportation to Washington has been arranged. If not, volunteer to organize it yourself.

Say No to Drugstore Smut
Dear Friends,
Below is an e-mail from Michelle Stanton about a very worthwhile cause she has taken up. I, too, am personally disgusted and scandalized at the filth that surrounds the checkout counters at most of the stores these days. Cosmopolitan is just one of the many pseudo-pornographic periodicals that tries to grab my attention while I'm fumbling through my wallet to pay for my gallon of milk.
I encourage you to go to Michelle's web site and e-sign the petition, but I also ask you to do one thing more. The next time you visit one of the stores that has smut at the checkout counter, take a few minutes to visit with the manager of the store and ask him to remove it. Believe it or not, that has been successful in the past.
Here is a resource you can use when discussing this with your local store managers (from AFA): http://www.afa.net/pornography/MagazineLayout.pdf, and Glossy Garbage: http://www.afa.net/glossy/.
Peace,
Joe Healy

Hi. My name is Michelle Stanton. Depending on how far this e-mail has traveled, you may or may not know me. Either way, I'm fairly confident that you will be interested in what follows and that we can partner together to make a real difference in our society.
I was recently shocked into starting a campaign to influence CVS stores to end the practice of putting Cosmopolitan magazine at their checkout counters. You can read my story at www.CleanUpCVS.com. In short, the magazine cover had in large letters several headlines that I would consider not only in bad taste, but pornographic. I was enraged at what I saw, standing there with my kids. In the past week, I've put together a website to gather signatures of people who, like me, desire some decency in these stores. I want our kids to have a chance at maintaining their innocence - the same chance that I had 25 years ago.
Whether you are a mom or dad, an auntie or uncle, or someone who is just fed up with the decadence in our society, I encourage you to join me in tackling this issue. I realize that this is just one of the challenges we, as traditional Americans, face. However, we've got to start somewhere. Please, take a few minutes to check out www.CleanUpCVS.com and sign our petition. I will not send you any information, other than to inform you of CVS's response to our complaint. Importantly, please forward this e-mail to as many people (5, 10, 25?) as you can think of that care about our culture. In order to reach our goal of 1,000 signatures, we really need you to pass on the e-mail.
Thank you so much for your partnership. I really believe our efforts will be worthwhile!
Sincerely,
Michelle Stanton

Presidential Candidate Witnessed Illegal Abortion
During the FRC Value Voters Summit back in October, Rep. Ron Paul related a story that gave him a profound respect for the unborn. Here is an excerpt from his comments:
...But to have anybody defend liberty I think it's most important that you know and understand how to defend life.
And for my time that I've spent in politics as well as medicine, I've thought this issue through rather seriously and have written even a booklet on the right-to-life issue and the importance of the unborn. And I frequently tell the story about when I was a resident, that this issue came up. It was in the 1960s, when abortions were still illegal, but my professor was doing abortions and permitting abortions to defy the law. And I accidentally walked into a room where they were doing an abortion, and they delivered a two-pound fetus, an infant that was breathing and crying. And they took this baby and put it over in a basket in the corner, and they waited, pretended they didn't hear it and let it die.
That is an outrage.
And unfortunately, since that time, our Supreme Court has institutionalized that, and that is why I think one of the most despicable of all court rulings has been the Roe versus Wade, and that should be our goal, is to repeal Roe versus Wade.
Now, there's a couple of ways that that can be done. Of course, we could wait until we have our Supreme Court justices appointed for them to, when the time comes, to rehear a case like that and rule differently; that's taking a long time. We've been living with Roe versus Wade since 1973, and it hasn't happened.
My approach -- I certainly support that, but my approach is a little bit more direct, and it could happen much quicker, and that is accepting the principle that we can, as a legislative body and as a president -- we can remove the jurisdiction of this issue from the federal courts.
I have a bill called the We the People Act, and this addresses several subjects -- prayer in school, the marriage issue as well as the abortion issue -- which literally just takes it away from the federal courts, which means any state could pass a law passing a prohibition that could not be heard in the federal courts.
Now, the question I have and something I don't have the answer for is I wonder why we haven't done better with this approach in Washington. I don't get the support that I think we should have. We haven't had the support in the Congress. We had the majority for a good many years, we've had a pro-life president, but we have not moved in that direction, and we say, "Oh, yeah, I'm going to appoint judges, and we'll take care of that." This would go into effect immediately, and it occurs only with majority vote of the Congress.
So don't give up on that method. Make sure that when you're promoting your issues and promoting the cause of life, that you remember that principle. It can be found in my bill called We The People's Act.

Exorcist Draws Huge Crowd
Friday, December 7th, 2007: Vigil of the Immaculate Conception, Baltimore, MD -
Fr. Tom Euteneuer, president of Human Life International and an exorcist in the Diocese of Arlington, VA, was scheduled to speak Friday night at St. Agnes Church in Catonsville, MD. The talk, part of the ongoing Defend Life lecture series, was "An Evening with an Exorcist: The Demonic Abortion Connection" (see the end of this article for instructions on receiving a free copy of this talk on CD).
Planners for the event expected 50 to 100 people to attend, which would have been a good showing for similar lecture events sponsored by Defend Life.
But Fr. Carl Cummings, pastor of St. Agnes, and Jack Ames, Director of Defend Life, were stunned when more than 200 people streamed through the door into the Old School Hall, filling all of the extra chairs that were being quickly set up to handle the large crowd. With all 192 available chairs filled, people were left sitting on tables and standing in the back.
All were eager to hear Fr. Euteneuer's account of his experiences in spiritual warfare. Despite the large number of people in the Hall, you could nearly hear a pin drop as Fr. Euteneuer began with the long form of the St. Michael prayer in Latin. He prefaced the prayer by saying that we may not understand what he was about to say, but any evil demons who might be present will certainly know and understand his words.
The St. Michael prayer was composed by Pope Leo XIII near the turn of the 20th Century after allegedly hearing a conversation between God and Satan. It carries with it an exorcism prayer, asking St. Michael to bind demons and cast them into Hell.
Why were so many people present? Perhaps it is because people are hungering for the truth of the demonic and Jesus' power over evil spirits. Anyone with eyes to see can figure out that there must be a demonic influence behind many of the afflictions and problems people are faced with today.
And in an age where religion is held as inconsequential and an opiate of the masses, people are hungering for spiritual truth. When asked if he felt whether or not there is an increasing sense of spiritual presence in our lives in these times (both good and bad), Fr. Euteneuer said, "The short answer is YES." He went on to say that nature abhors a vacuum, and the same is true in the spiritual realm.
He said that there is a growing divide between those who believe in God and his power over our lives and society and those who either are indifferent or who are outright evil. And both sides are becoming more and more intense. "The divide can be seen in our political parties, our local communities, and in the media," he said.
People are hungering for the truth. They were so rapt with Fr. Euteneuer's account that hardly a soul left during the hour and a half talk. In fact, most people remained behind and formed a long line in front of him to ask questions, receive blessings, and get advice, staying for more than three hours.
Preceding the talk, Fr. Euteneuer and 27 faithful gathered in prayer outside of the local abortion facility, the Hillcrest Clinic in Catonsville. They prayed the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary, and afterwards Fr. Euteneuer prayed spiritual binding prayers against all of the demons and demonic influence effecting the building and all those who participate in the abortions there.
A free copy of Fr. Euteneuer's talk, including the extensive question and answer session afterwards, is available by sending your name and address to: CDs@defendlife.org.
